All Things Jean

In today’s blog post I want to shed light on one of my favorite fashion statements. The simplicity of the jean jacket is what has made it one of the most timeless pieces of all-time.

The jean jacket first dates back to 1880 by Levi Strauss, who a few years earlier invented the denim jean in its simplest form. More so for the functionality standpoint, the jean jacket was used in replacement for the coat. The jean material is a great method to insulate heat when temperatures drop. It also was a lot more lightweight and manageable than a bulky coat at the time. The mainstream aspect of the jean jacket came about in the 1970s and 80’s when women would pair it with t-shirts or blouses. The stone-washed look to the jacket has since become an American staple.

Flashing into today’s modern fashion world, the jacket is used not only for functionality but has also become a trendy piece of clothing. Today’s celebrities and industry individuals can be seen in a multitude of variations of the jacket. The distressed and vintage look is a personal favorite for me.

What makes the jean jacket especially popular within the fashion industry is the versatility you have when dressing it. For the classic and clean look, you can just pair it with a graphic tee. If you are going for a more trendy and formal look, you can pair this jean jacket with a turtleneck or a dress. On a colder day, you can throw the jean jacket over a hoodie or sweatshirt and you look fashionable all while staying warm. The Trend Spotter goes into more detail on ways to style it.

Overall the jean jacket has stood the test of time and will continue to be an iconic piece within the wardrobe. I recommend getting this essential piece, as you can find them anywhere and everywhere with thousands of types.
