With the first blog post, I believe it is only right that I shed light on one of my personal favorite and most prominent looks in the fashion industry; the turtleneck.
This simplistic article of clothing seemed to be going out of style, but as of the end of the last decade and the beginning of this one, it has seemed to get its respect back.
The turtleneck first became mainstream in the 19th century, but this was not a fashion statement. The turtleneck was seen as a functional piece that served practically based on the warmth and thickness it provided. It was not until the late 70s that this article of clothing became a fashion statement.
The turtleneck can be seen as a symbol of the many different movements and periods that it has withstood. It can date back to the 60s where people wore them as a symbol of stature and wealth. You are also able to see them intentionally worn on women in the 70s as they fought for equality. Flashing forward, you now see it within the wardrobe of many celebrities mixing and matching looks within the industry.
What I like most about the turtleneck is the variety that it holds. You can obtain numerous amounts of looks whether you choose to dress it up or down. You can take the turtleneck and pair it with a trench coat or blazer and you can achieve a more classy look. Maybe it is a cold day, you can simply just wear the turtleneck and it provides the cozy sweater look. My personal favorite of this style is layering it under a shirt and you can pull more streetwear and trendy aesthetic. Live About also gives create visuals of the many different looks you can pull off while wearing the turtleneck
